🌺 Maternal and Child Health Care Program
Our Mission
In Uganda, where over 1.5 million refugees live alongside host communities, our Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Program bridges the gap between need and access. We work to ensure that every mother whether Ugandan or displaced receives dignified, life-saving care during pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond.
What We Do
- Inclusive Antenatal & Postnatal Care We provide free checkups, skilled birth attendance, and postpartum support in both refugee settlements and host villages. Mobile clinics reach remote areas like Bidi Bidi, Nakivale, and Palabek.
- Nutrition & Infant Feeding Support Malnutrition affects both refugee and host children. We offer nutrition screening, therapeutic feeding, and promote exclusive breastfeeding through mother-to-mother support groups.
- Vaccination & Disease Prevention We deliver routine immunizations and educate families on malaria prevention, hygiene, and safe water practices—critical in overcrowded settlements.
- Community Health Education Using local languages and radio broadcasts, we raise awareness about maternal rights, family planning, and newborn care. We train refugee women as peer educators and health champions.
- Emergency Referrals & Transport For high-risk pregnancies and sick children, we coordinate ambulance services and referrals to district hospitals.
Our Impact
Since 2013, we’ve:
- Supported over 57,120 safe deliveries
- Trained 18,098 refugee and host community health workers
- Reached 108,588 families with health education
- Reduced maternal and infant mortality in targeted regions
Why It Matters
Refugee mothers often face trauma, displacement, and limited access to care. Host communities struggle with overstretched health systems. Our program builds resilience, equity, and hope—one mother and child at a time.
